To soon to say goodbye to the world that gave her fame, fortune, status and a beautiful family.
Bollywood top star Sridevi Kapoor, shocked the world when she passed away at the young age of 54 on Feb. 24, 2018 in Dubai.
“Shocked”, “Disbelief”, “Hoax” and “Dark Day” were just some of the words floating online when the news broke of her passing.
Sridevi was attending her nephew’s wedding in Dubai. It was first reported that the actress died of cardiac arrest then it was confirmed that it was accidental drowning in the hotel room bathtub that lead to her sudden death.
The stunning actress has left a deep, deep void in the world of Indian films and in the hearts of millions of her fans around the world who adored her and her films.
The beautiful actress starred in over 300 films and has been acting since the age of 4. She continued her success in South Indian regional films then moved to Hindi films (Bollywood) and that is where she shot to international stardom with box office hits, massive offers and adoration from millions upon millions of fans.
Girls wanted to be her. Ladies wanted to dress like her and men wanted to be next to her, that is the kind of overwhelming mass appeal that the actress had.
Many of Sridevi’s films still have a almost cult like following and have become classics such as English Vinglish (2012), Lamhe (1991) , Chandani (1989) , Himmatwala(1983) and the blockbuster that broke all records Mr. India (1987).
English Vinglish was Sridevi’s comeback film after a 15 year hiatus. When the film was released, it was as if the actress had never left. Her fans loved the movie and so did the box office.
Sridevi was considered the most versatile and gifted actress in Bollywood. Her ability to portray any role that she was given was a unique gift that very few actresses possess which is why she was the most sought after actress by directors and producers during her reign. Directors would wait years for their films to be made just so Sridevi could be in it.
Her last film Mom (2017) where she portrays a mother who decides to take justice in her own hands to avenge her daughter’s rapists was one her most memorable performances. It was her second film after 5 years. Her acting was brilliant and as one film critic wrote “If you never saw a Sridevi film in your life and saw Mom, you will clearly see that the actress has the innate ability to act from the core.”
Sridevi was cremated in Mumbai on February 28 and Bollywood came to a standstill. Millions of fans and top celebrities and co-stars came to give their last farewell to the young actress during her state funeral in which she was draped in the Tricolor Indian flag-an honor only given to dignitaries, state & military officials. It was a tremendous sad day for India and for millions of her fans who watched a young, South Indian actress thrive into a leading beautiful Bollywood superstar.
Sridevi is survived by producer husband Boney Kapoor and two beautiful daughters Jhanvi 21,and Khushi, 17. Jhanvi is expected to make her Bollywood debut later this year and we all know Sridevi will be watching from above.
RIP Sridevi. The journey for you has ended but you leave behind a legacy that will forever be cherished and never forgotten.
