The Indian film industry, known around the world as Bollywood, recently lost one of their most revered, popular and almost God-like status personalities who left a behind a legacy of numerous box office hits and millions of social media followers..
Actor, producer, poet and former politician Dharmendra Deol, affectionately known just as Dharmendra and the “He-Man” for his rugged great looks, highly popular action films and manly physique, passed away in Mumbai, India on November 24, 2025 at the age of 89, just a few weeks shy of his 90th birthday on December 8.
For a few moments Bollywood stood still.
Hard to believe that the social media superstar and Bollywood icon was no more.
The once ridiculously handsome and multi-millionaire megastar who ruled the box office for nearly seven decades with his action packed films complete with chart busting songs, gorgeous leading ladies, award-winning story lines, and mesmerizing close ups, will forever live in the hearts of his fans around the world.
Among his 300 plus films which included many impressive hits, was one of the biggest blockbuster Hindi films ever to come out of Bollywood in 1975 called Sholay (embers) which ran to packed movie houses all over India for decades making Dharmendra one of the most sought after and highest paid stars in Bollywood. The film became a cult classic and broke all box office records for its songs, cast and story line and till this day, Sholay is considered to be one of the most epic and globally iconic Hindi films ever to come out of Bollywood.
With Dharmendra’s seven decades long career, it’s impossible to name all the hit films that were major successes, but some of the biggest box office ones include Anpadh (1962), Bandini (1963), Aayee Milan Ki Bela (1963) Satyakam (1968), Aaya Sawan Jhoom Ke (1969), Guddi (1971), Black Mail (1973) Dream Girl (with Bollywood superstar wife Hema Malini) and of course Sholay (1975).
Even after his acting career slowed down, the award-winning legend continued producing and directing films and even worked in some films along side his two dashing Bollywood actor sons, Sunny and Bobby Deol.
Dharmendra was also very active on social media and loved to connect with his millions of followers around the world who got a glimpse into what the star’s life was like living at his multi-million dollar stunning 100 acre farm house located in scenic Lonavala, a well-known and popular hill station about 3 hours from Mumbai.
Dharmendra leaves behind two wives, Prakash Kaur and Bollywood superstar Hema Malini, 6 adult children, several grandchildren and many, many friends and relatives.
The journey continues and Dharmendra began a new one into eternity on November 24, 2025.
