Fall TV Season Brings New Shows, Talented Actors & Hopes For Peabody Award

Permalink 0

With the fall TV season about to go in full swing, millions of fans are anxiously awaiting for new shows to debut. Some look very promising such as A Million Little Things on ABC about a supposedly happy middle-aged man who decides to end his life changing the lives his close friends and family forever and the powerful NBC  medical drama, New Amsterdam, about a devoted doctor trying to change the way patients are treated and healthcare is received. The show stars well-known actor Ryan Egggold and Bollywood top star, Anupam Kher.

Many critics and TV stars that I have spoken to recently are hopeful that not only will the new shows hold audiences attention, but also be talked about on social media and end up winning top industry awards. Surprisingly, many of the actors told me that the one award that they hope their show will be recognized for is the prestigious Peabody Award. One of the industry’s most respected and prestigious award, the Peabody is given to TV shows, news segments and documentaries that not only have incredible story lines and brilliant actors, but also bring attention and awareness to social and environmental issues that are often brilliantly woven into scripts and dialogues.

Peabody winning actor Michael Zegen poses with The Ravi Report founder Ravi Yande

At the Peabody Awards earlier this year in NYC at the world-famous Cipriani venue, home to celebrities and social events of the season, award-winning actor Michael Zegen star of the wonderful and very popular  Amazon original series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, spoke exclusively to The Ravi Report about his show winning its’ first Peabody. The show, now in its second season, has already won Golden Globes and Prime Time Emmys and the star of the show, Rachel Brosnahan who portrays Ms. Maisel, is beyond brilliant.

RR: Congrats Michael. Great show. Your reaction to winning your first Peabody Award.

MZ:I’m not surprised at the incredible reaction to the show. I always thought it was a great show!

RR. You often give credit to the team of the show whenever your role and talents are talked about. Why?

MZ: We all work so hard on the show. Rachel (Brosnahan) especially. It’s the actors, the crew, the writers and director that make the show so great. I never have been part of something where the crew looks forward to coming to work everyday and I look forward to waking up at 4am, I’m not a morning person so that is a surprise to me but I have no problem waking up and getting to work. I love it.

Versatile and very talented actor Patrick Fabian, who portrays Howard Hamlin on the  incredible show Better Call Saul  on AMC  also won a Peabody and the actor was a bit surprised at the immense popularity of the show that has created almost a cult like following.

Peabody winner actor Patrick Fabian discusses his win with The Ravi Report

PF: I’m a little surprised at the reaction because I have been around for a very long time and television can provide a lot and we can celebrate that. You are in people’s house and living rooms every night,  you are in their lives. Now when I walk down the streets in NY or LA, I get a lot of people who yell “Howard, get your sh** together” (laughs). People like me or they don’t like me and it’s great story telling and I am happy to be part of it. We are all really proud of what we make.

RR:  You have been in the TV industry for a while and have been recognized and honored for your work and talents. Please tell me if you will,  about the changes in the TV industry that you like or dislike.

PF: I have been around long enough to see it go from the old big 3 to the big 4. Now everyone with a phone is making a TV show so you get the good and bad with that. The good is that anybody can make a TV show and there’s a lot of work for people both in front and behind the camera. The bad part about it is that anybody can make a TV show and not everyone needs to be an actor, director or producer.  I think what we are going through a moment right now where there is a glut of content and it’s going to wean itself off and with all the content out there today, winning a Peabody is indeed a big deal.

RR: Would you agree or disagree that despite reality shows, people still love TV drama and great writing.
PF:I have friends that are obsessed with all that reality stuff and I get that, it’s like eating a candy bar, very satisfying. But people still want to sit down to a good meal.
RR: Thank you Patrick. It was honor to meet you. I am a big fan of Better Call Saul.
PF: Thank you and keep watching!
