So the midterm elections are over (whew!) now what?
We wait and see the outcome of the current recounts that are going on in Florida, Georgia and Mississippi.
To recap, the Democrats won the House back while the Republicans were happy to still maintain the Senate.
But not all the candidates were able to bask in their glory of winning.
Mississippi, Florida and Georgia are among the states that demanded a recount after the polls closed.
That’s where the drama began.
After an intense recount, Arizona former social worker Krysten Sinema (D) won the Senate seat. Sinema will take the seat of Republican Jeff Flake who is leaving the Senate.
The Florida recount drama in Broward County has been bedeviled with enough controversies to have its’ own talk show.
Lawyers, lawsuits, ballots magically appearing then disappearing, trucks loaded with missing ballots trying to fee and missed deadlines, have all given the most contested midterm elections in the history of Florida voting a national platform for ridicule.
Recounts in Florida are for three seats including Senate, governor and agriculture commissioner.
Outgoing Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott, is vying for the US Senate seat. Scott has been governor of Florida since 2011.
Republican Ron DeSantis, is hoping to take the reins as governor in Florida once the recount has been completed. Running mate Democrat Andrew Gillium at first conceded, but then changed his mind.
Some critics are saying, the recount debacle could lead to either the ouster or suspension of Brenda Snipes, the current Broward County Elections Supervisor who already has a tarnished record from past elections.
The Georgia recount is also gaining nationwide attention as Stacy Abrams (D) has recently filed a lawsuit to block counties from tossing out absentee and provisional ballots. Abrams ran against Republican Brian Kemp who already has declared a victory for the governor’s seat. The surprise win came as a shock to those who supported Abrams since Oprah Winfrey campaigned door-to-door for Abrams during the elections.
The Senate runoff in Mississippi between Democratic former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy Republican Senator Cindy Hype-Smith in a scheduled for a Senate Special Election runoff Nov. 27.
Mississippi is a pro-Trump state.
The recounts are vast approaching their respective deadlines so now all we can do is wait, listen and hope for the best.
The journey continues….
