Action Packed Indian Film ‘RRR’ Picks Up Multiple Golden Globe & Critics Choice Nominations

After the celebrated Indian movie ‘Laagan’, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, created a worldwide sensation with its’ star cast, story line and amazing songs, there is another spectacular Indian film that seems to be following in the footsteps of Lagaan with wining awards and receiving prestigious top industry nominations.

The Indian Telgu language film ‘RRR’, (Rise, Roar, Revolt) a spectacular, epic action drama directed by S. S. Rajamouli, has become the latest sensation to come out of the Indian film industry and has been embraced warmly by the US audiences while receiving top recognition from the Hollywood entertainment industry.

The blockbuster film, with a cult-like following in the billions, has been nominated for two Golden Globes Awards including Best Non-English language film and Best Original Song Track, and five Critics Choice Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

Add to the film’s glory, director S.S. Rajamouli won this years’ New York Film Critics Circle for Best Director.

RRR is ranking in top entertainment industry awards this season.

RRR also recently scored another win for Best Music Score at the LA Film Critics Association Awards for the film’s composer Keeravani.

The action packed movie takes place in the 1920s, where two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by superstar Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by the iconic star Rama Rao) and how their strong friendship plays a key role in their fight against the British rule, which was the ruling party in India during that time period.

The movie has a stellar cast including award-winning top actors Ram Charan, N. T. Rama Rao Jr, and Bollywood A-listers Alia Bhatt & Ajay Devgn.

The film, with an impressive $30M worldwide box office collection on the day it opened, surpassed any Indian film to date with first day box office ticket sales and the film continues rake in millions in ticket sales around the world.

RRR budget was $72M and is considered to be the most expensive Indian movie ever made.

With the Oscars nominations right around the corner, (Jan. 24, 2023), industry critics are expecting ‘RRR’ to be nominated for many of the top categories including Best Foreign Picture.

The Academy Awards Show air on Sunday, March 12, 2023 and expect to see a lot of designer vibrant colored saris laced in gold thread and crystals.
