The fashion show unites fashion, entertainment, healthcare and celebrities to openly talk about prostate cancer and educating men on the importance of early detection and regular screening. Corresponding with February’s Cancer Prevention Month, top designers such as Thom Browne, Brooks Brothers, Michael Kors and John Varvatos are just a few of the iconic designers who used their creative talents to reinvent the traditional blue blazer for the runway.

Prominent WNYW news anchor Mike Woods, a survivor of prostate cancer, says the disease runs in his family as both his grandfather and father succumbed to the illness years ago. Woods was diagnosed in 2018 with the cancer which was discovered when he went for a normal check up. He proudly tells his story publicly to let men know about the importance of early screening.

” I felt fine and had no symptoms otherwise. Had I not gone in for a regular check up, things would have been much more serious. I got tested and the results came back with a high PSA level (Prostate Specific Antigen).” Woods had surgery and said the doctors caught it early enough before it had fully metastasized. After the recovery process, Woods is now cancer free.

“Early detection is key. People are still apprehensive about getting their prostate checked but men need to realized that it’s better safe than sorry and it can save your life.” Woods says he gets checked every six months for the first five years, than once a year afterwards.

Actor Dominic Fumusa has been a ardent supporter of early screening for years.

“My father had prostate cancer 20 years ago and thank God they caught it early . What would motivate me to get tested is my family. I don’t want them to be alone because I did not do the right thing.”
