The world has changed and there is no one that can deny it. COVID-19 or Coronavirus, has in fact changed every aspect of our lives in more ways than every before.
Two months ago, social distancing was unheard of. Now, it’s become a reality. Wearing gloves, masks, sanitizing and washing hands every moment we get, has now become etched in our lives. But, as the human spirit has been tested before and this is no different. We are all in this together and will come out of it together.
Just like millions, my life has changed. I now stand 6 feet apart from anyone I see, wash my hands umpteen times a day, wear a mask whwn I go out and change my clothes multiple times a day. It’s the new reality.
Business closed, restaurants, gyms and cafes shut, malls and luxury shops boarded up and major cities looking like ghost towns is overwhelming and frankly, quite scary, but we will get through this and come out even stronger.
Panic buying is still going strong in some states (and so is hoarding and price gouging) and supplies of food and basic necessities are running low as the date to reopen the economy keeps on changing.
My ER doc friend in NYC has been on the front lines since the pandemic first started and says that he is so overwhelmed with patients and brutal long hours, he sometimes forgets what day of the week it is. He is fearful for his health and hoping and praying he does not contact the virus but even if he did, he said it would not change his attitude.
“I went into medicine for the good and the bad. This is the bad, the very bad, but we will get through it like we have the others.” said the ER doc.
With many of my friends working in the healthcare industry, I have a tremendous amount of respect for them and what they do. Honestly, they are heroes and should be saluted not just during this pandemic, but always.
